- This is my first book to learning the banjo in the simplest way possible. I've taken everything out but what it takes to play the songs. when you look at a normal music book there is so much there that it can be very confusing to anyone that doesn't read music. That's why I've written these books so anyone can learn the simple way to the banjo. In this book you have the chart for all the cords down the neck to the tuning of the banjo in G, C, and D, the explanation of what everything means from the practice roles to practice charts for both hands, and your first song to learn to play. I have taught many students using this method and it works. All you need is patience and time to be the best banjo picker you can be.
Volume 2 has 4 songs in it to get you going. The method is still the same and will never change. that's the great thing about this method; the more we use it the better we do it. Just like the old pro's would do the same show's for 2 years never changing anything and that's how they got so good.
The middle numbers are the strings that we are playing. the T, I M, ( thumb, index, middle ) under the numbers are the finger's we are using to play the strings and on top is the left hand. If it says S-M-2 to 3? that means slide the middle finger from the 2nd fret to the 3rd fret. It's that simple!
So in this book there is a lot more left hand work but most of the roles you already know from the first book. As long as we keep the roles 8 notes for one role or 5 and a hit ( some call it a pinch ) the hit counts for 3 so its still a 8 note rule. Enjoy and have fun!
Volume 3 has 5 songs in it that everyone wants to play. In Cripple Creek I have the 3 finger style and a chromatic break too. So its two different styles to learn in one song. John Henry is in open D and Old Folks is in C with the 4th string tuned down to C. And lets not forget Dueling Banjos is also in this volume. All these are a lot of fun to learn and to play. Again the method is the same so it's easier to learn!
This is the first ever slow banjo book. This will show you how to play slow banjo like the pro's. When we play slow songs we need to play breaks and back up behind the singing. This book will show you how to do it using 1,2,3,or 4 strings: it's your choice. I also show you how we use the chords to play slow banjo. Back up is just as important in slow music as in fast. I show you just how we do both in this book. So parts of this are used for fast back up too. Like anything, it may sound difficult to learn but when we break it down, line by line it becomes easy. All the minor chords are also in this book along with some old songs and some songs that I wrote just for this book.
This is the book for working on your drive while learning the great songs that every banjo player wants to know. They are not hard to learn when we learn them line by line. Foggy Mountain
